About us
Life Terra seeks to bring people together to plant 500 million trees in Europe, harnessing and monitoring nature’s own carbon capture mechanism.
As one of Europe’s leading climate action initiatives, we are dedicated to empowering people, communities, businesses, and institutions to take meaningful action for the climate and biodiversity. Through ecosystem restoration, environmental education, and innovative tree monitoring technology, we transform climate ambition into measurable impact on the ground.
Our journey
Life Terra began as an ambitious project co-funded by the EU’s LIFE Programme, the flagship funding instrument for environmental initiatives. Launched in 2020 and supported by a consortium of partners across Europe, Life Terra combined scientific expertise, community engagement, and innovative digital tools to make climate action accessible, transparent, and measurable.
During the LIFE period, Life Terra established the foundations for long-term impact. Thousands of restoration activities were organised, educational programmes reached students and teachers, and a pioneering platform was developed to geolocate and track planted trees. As the LIFE-funded phase concluded, Life Terra evolved from a project into a permanent company and foundation and a growing European movement.
Today, Life Terra operates across +30 countries, connecting people with nature. As we look ahead, we remain committed to our founding purpose: empowering people to restore nature, strengthen biodiversity, and build a more resilient future for generations to come.
Our Team
We are a diverse group of people who are enthusiastic about taking climate action now. Life Terra have offices in Amsterdam, Barcelona and Brussels. We also collaborate with partners all over Europe to create a bigger and more meaningful impact.
Planting
Planting a diverse mix of tree species is essential to our planting plan. We believe firmly in “the right tree in the right place”, for more effective land restoration and greater ecosystem resilience.
Monitoring
Monitoring trees is important to ensure that the climate & environmental benefits we claim to make are happening! We have developed a state-of-the-art monitoring program, where you can track your trees.
Educating
Education is our most valuable investment. Life Terra and educational specialists created a STEM based, interactive environmental education program for children ages 8-14.
Engaging
Community involvement is key to our success. If we want to scale tree planting and speed up the pace of climate action, we need your help planting and teaching people how to plant.
The Life Terra Foundation
Life Terra Foundation was established in 2020 to lead the LIFE Terra programme during the LIFE period. Now, it continues as the heart of our mission: promoting climate action, environmental education, and ecosystem restoration across Europe.
Objectives
Life Terra is Europe’s initiative to lead the fight against climate change, prepare future generations, drive greener policies across the board and generate investment and growth in green jobs. The main objectives are to:

Engage a record number of individual citizens and stakeholders to take action towards climate change mitigation by facilitating the planting of 500 million trees in Europe
Connect
Connect these participants through an innovative and comprehensive web platform and app that organizes and streamlines the planting process
Innovate
Innovate in the latest monitoring and satellite technologies to provide citizens and specialists alike with precise and transparent data on trees planted
Inspire
Inspire the next generation of EU citizens to thrive in the face of climate change challenges, through a unique STEM based sustainability education program
