Finca Alía, Spain

Life Terra is carrying out its largest carbon sequestration credit project to restore a deforested 38ha area with more than 60,000 trees of 19 different native species.

This restoration aims to enhance biodiversity, improve soil quality and provide resources to landowners.

Furthermore, it will also help to create a better habitat for one of the most emblematic species of the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most endangered on the planet: the lynx.

Projects such as Finca Alía are essential to create ecosystems that are more resilient to the effects of climate change and, at the same time, promote the development of the rural community.

Plot and tree information

Finca Alía is located in Alía, Cáceres, in the southwest of Spain.

The climate in Alía is characterized as Mediterranean with continental influences, typical of the region. Summers in Alía are generally hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F). The area receives most of its rainfall during the autumn and winter months, with relatively dry periods in the summer.

The trees and shrubs planted will provide several beneficial impacts on the ecosystem and environment:

  • Soil Conservation: trees help prevent soil erosion and conserve moisture and water retention, which is really important in dry areas.

  • Temperature Regulation: trees provide shade and lower surface temperatures.

  • Water Management: Trees play a crucial role in regulating the water cycle by absorbing water from the soil and releasing it into the atmosphere through transpiration.

Tree species

In order to increase biodiversity and to create a mixed and resilient ecosystem, the following species were planted:
