Maasheggen Mooi
Maasheggen Mooi is a volunteer-driven initiative based in the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of De Maasheggen, the Netherlands. It was launched by Lars van Peij, who was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease and decided to dedicate his time to creating a meaningful legacy for his son and future generations. His goal is to restore and expand the historic hedgerow system—known as “Maasheggen”—that holds both ecological and cultural value in this unique region. Since the start of the initiative, over 2.7 kilometers of hedge have been planted with the help of nearly 300 volunteers and hundreds of individual donations.
Life Terra is proud to support Maasheggen Mooi in its mission. Together, they have carried out planting actions to restore native hedgerows that support local biodiversity, improve landscape resilience, and preserve cultural heritage. The first joint event, organised in collaboration with partner BLG, brought volunteers together to plant around 700 trees—even under snowfall. Life Terra is honoured to contribute to this inspiring initiative and encourages others to get involved and support Lars’s vision for a greener, more connected landscape.
