Municipality of Candeleda

The Ayuntamiento de Candeleda serves as the local government of Candeleda, a municipality in the province of Ávila, within the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. Situated on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos, Candeleda boasts a unique microclimate with mild winters and hot summers, making it a hub for agriculture, particularly goat farming and olive cultivation. The town is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, and its commitment to preserving the natural environment "In 2020, the Town Council of Candeleda initiated a project to honour the memory of women killed due to gender-based violence. They committed to planting one tree for each victim, creating a memorial forest within the ""Parque de las Siemprevivas"" (Park of the Everlasting). This two-hectare park features carefully selected tree species chosen for their suitability to the local climate and their vibrant colours throughout the year. The initiative aims not only to serve as a living tribute to the victims but also to enrich the landscape and promote biodiversity. Collaborators such as the Women's Academy for Rural Innovation have participated in the planting efforts, contributing to both environmental sustainability and social awareness.
