Quinta das Abelhas

Quinta das Abelhas ("The Farm for the Bees") is a research and learning project dedicated to developing complex Syntropic Agroforestry systems in the Alentejo region of Portugal. Founded in 2019 by Marc Leiber (GrowBack), a long-time student of Ernst Götsch, the project adapts Götsch’s innovative Syntropic Farming techniques to the Mediterranean climate.

Hosted within the Herdade do Freixo do Meio estate, the initiative aims to:
- Develop a reference site for Syntropic Agroforestry in the Portuguese Alentejo
- Create habitat and resilience for pollinators
- Regenerate degraded land by restoring microclimates and the water cycle in desertification-prone areas.

Life Terra is proud to have supported Quinta das Abelhas over three planting seasons, donating 50,000 trees to help establish productive, diverse, and climate-resilient agroforests. This partnership contributes to rethinking agriculture as a regenerative and economically viable path forward for both seasoned and new farmers in southern Europe.
