Tierra Pura

Tierra Pura is an independent, non-profit Foundation created in 2019 with the aim of promoting nature-based solutions. Our team is made up of professionals from various fields who share a common interest in combating climate change.

Our mission is to support and accelerate the functions of natural ecosystems as tools for climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity enhancement, and the reduction of desertification and land degradation. We promote catalytic ecosystem restoration actions, including forests, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems.

Their goals are:
- Supporting the fight against climate change through CO₂ absorption.
- Seeking positive impacts on biodiversity, soil, and water by planting the right tree in the right place.
- Aiming to generate socio-economic opportunities in rural areas.

The Tierra Pura Grandas de Salime project aims to accelerate the restoration process in a sector of the Sierra de La Cuesta and Villarpedre, in Grandas de Salime (Asturias), affected by a forest fire in 2017.

Restoration work began in autumn 2021 in the southwestern area of Asturias, with the planting of nearly 165,000 native trees across approximately 135 hectares in the municipality of Grandas de Salime, devastated by two wildfires in 2017. In addition to capturing 55,000 tons of CO₂ over a period of 50 years, the intervention will help recover native forest, protect the soil, contribute to biodiversity improvement, and restore heritage elements of high cultural value.
25 local workers will be hired for the planting work, 70% of whom belong to vulnerable groups, helping to retain the population in the region.
