Forest restoration, Saiáns
About the project
This project aims to restore a 2-hectare plot in the municipality of Vigo that was formerly occupied by a monoculture of pine. The site will be transformed into a diverse native forest using a rich mix of at least five native tree and shrub species, creating a resilient and biodiverse ecosystem adapted to the local conditions of Galicia’s Atlantic coast.
Life Terra will lead the restoration together with the local Comunidad de Montes de Saiáns, ensuring both ecological value and community involvement.
Objective
To restore a degraded pine monoculture into a biodiverse native forest that strengthens the land’s ecological resilience and supports long-term forest recovery in the Vigo area.

Impact
The project will regenerate local ecosystems and increase biodiversity by reintroducing native tree and shrub species. By creating a more balanced forest structure, it will also function as a natural firebreak, reducing wildfire risk and promoting soil and water conservation.
Beyond its environmental impact, the initiative strengthens the link between people and nature, supporting local communities, offering opportunities for environmental education, and contributing to more resilient rural and peri-urban landscapes in Galicia.
Progress and visibility will be shared through Life Terra’s digital dashboard, local press, and social media.
