50 ha of transformation in Mariënwaerdt

About the project

The Marienwaerdt Climate Action Project is an ambitious 50-hectare transformation on one of the Netherlands’ most historic private estates, blending agroforestry, forest restoration, and community engagement.

Developed by Life Terra and certified under the aOCP standard, it delivers measurable carbon sequestration, biodiversity recovery, and educational opportunities, creating a powerful model where climate action, heritage, and sustainable investment come together.

Objectives

Agroforestry & Organic Transformation: Former farmlands converted to organic management are being revitalized through agroforestry systems that integrate trees, crops, and pasture, improving soil health, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.

Forest Restoration: Diseased monoculture forests are replaced with diverse, climate-resilient species to ensure long-term ecological stability and adaptability.

Citizen & Stakeholder Engagement: Interactive planting events with schools, businesses, and investors foster environmental awareness and shared responsibility.

Timeline

Planting is scheduled for the 2025/2026 season, with project completion expected by the end of 2026.
