Afforestation Project in Brunflo

About the project

In Brunflo, central Sweden, Life Terra is partnering with local stakeholders to transform former crop fields into a thriving native mixed forest. This 5,000-tree afforestation project will restore degraded farmland, enhance local biodiversity, and contribute to long-term ecosystem resilience.

The new forest will feature a diverse mix of native species, including Betula pubescens, Populus tremula, Picea abies, Sorbus aucuparia, Salix caprea, and Corylus avellana, creating a natural mosaic that supports wildlife and improves landscape connectivity.

Objective

To restore former agricultural land through the planting of approximately 5,000 native trees, establishing a mixed forest ecosystem that will recover soil functions, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to Sweden’s long-term reforestation goals.

Impact

This project will:

  • Sequester carbon and help mitigate climate change.

  • Increase biodiversity by creating new habitats for birds, pollinators, and native fauna.

  • Improve soil quality and water retention through natural regeneration processes.

  • Enhance landscape resilience and connectivity between existing forested areas.

  • Engage the local community in hands-on climate action and sustainability education.

How do we measure this impact?

  • Number of trees planted

  • Number of species planted

  • Number of hectares restored

  • Tons of CO2 eq absorbed*

  • Community members involved

  • Number of planting events

Supporting this project means supporting the following SDGs:

  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
  • Partnerships for the goals
