Budišov Restoration Project

About the project

The Budíšov project aims to transform an abandoned pasture into a thriving mixed forest ecosystem. Through the planting of twelve native and naturalized tree species, the initiative enhances habitat diversity, improves soil structure, and supports pollinators and wildlife. Situated on gentle clay slopes with favorable climatic conditions, the site offers a strong foundation for long-term ecological recovery. This project represents a vital step in restoring degraded landscapes while connecting local heritage with a greener, more resilient future.

Budišov Restoration Project

Objectives

The project seeks to reestablish a balanced forest ecosystem on previously underused land by combining native species with those better adapted to future climatic conditions. Through this approach, Budíšov will serve as a model for climate-resilient forestry, demonstrating how biodiversity-based design can enhance soil health, reduce erosion, and create a stable environment for both flora and fauna.

Impact:

By replacing degraded land with a diverse forest structure, the Budíšov project contributes to restoring ecological balance and enhancing the area’s natural resilience.

The inclusion of multiple tree species reduces vulnerability to pests such as the bark beetle, strengthens local biodiversity, and improves carbon sequestration capacity. Over time, this transformation will create a healthier landscape that supports wildlife, stabilizes soils, and contributes to the broader climate adaptation efforts across Central Europe.

This project contributes to the following SDGs:

  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
