Chateaupers
In Châteaupers, France, a former cornfield is taking its first steps toward becoming a flourishing forest. For decades, this land was used for intensive farming, but at a cost: forests disappeared, and with them, much of the biodiversity that makes ecosystems resilient. Now, the landowner has joined forces with Life Terra to reverse this damage and help nature recover one tree at a time.

Species selection and adaptation
The choice of species was based on their resilience to the local soil and climatic conditions. A mix of hardwood and conifer species was planted to ensure both ecological stability and habitat diversity for local fauna.
This 10-meter-wide, 600-meter-long forest corridor is being built to link two isolated patches of forest. By bridging this gap, wildlife will have a pathway to move, forage, and thrive. The trees were planted close together 1 tree every 1.5m² so that only the strongest and healthiest grow tall, mimicking how forests regenerate naturally.

Impact
In November 2024, local schools and volunteers carried out several planting events to establish a diverse forested area. The initiative was supported by ASES, Lavera Naturkosmetik and Adyen employees, who joined efforts with Life Terra to make this restoration possible.
In total, more than 1000 seedlings between trees and shrubs were planted during this action. This will contribute to stabilizing the soil, enriching biodiversity, and setting the basis for a resilient forest ecosystem in Villagonzalo Pedernales.
