Glade Lane Canalside Park, Ealing

About the project

The Glade Lane Canalside Park is a community park in need of boosting its tree cover, biodiversity, and aesthetic capacity. While already recognised for its nature and wildlife values, the increased natural capital resulting from tree planting in the area has the potential to address multiple SDGs to further the positive impact and spillovers this park can have for life on land, especially in urban zones. The topology of the park historically suffered from rubble building, depriving the park’s mounts from greeneries. The reforestation of these mounts will improve local flora and fauna, shade, and much more.

Objective

In collaboration with Letting Grow, a Ealing-based charity, and aligned with their mission ‘Planting Forrest’: tree planting activities engaging local communities to plant mixed native species in a variety of parks, neighborhoods or schools. The Glade Lane Canalside Park will benefit from increased biodiversity and resilience.

Impact

By supporting this project, you will help restore degraded land with productive forest cover, enhancing ecosystem services in the area. It will improve soil quality, boost water infiltration and biodiversity, store carbon for decades, strengthening local capacity and resilience. The project also improves the community’s awareness, engagement, and oversight of their direct natural capital, while offering environmental education opportunities.

How do we measure this impact?

  • Number of trees planted

  • Number of hectares restored

  • Tons of CO2 eq absorbed**

  • Community members involved

  • Students involved

  • Jobs created

Supporting this project means supporting the following SDGs:

  • health
  • Quality education
  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
  • Partnerships for the goals
