Krubin: Narew Project
About the project
Located on the banks of the river Narew, within a 30-minute drive from Warsaw, this project aims to restore the riparian ecosystem of one of the most important rivers in Poland. The Narew river embarks on its journey through the Polish countryside from the Bialowieza forest, one of the last remaining extensive primaeval forests of Europe. From here it flows towards Warsaw where it joins the Vistula river towards the sea. Along the river banks of the Narew farming has been reducing the natural vegetation, which is essential to the biodiversity of central Poland.
Objective
Life Terra has been working with Aeris Futuro, a local Polish NGO, to restore the riparian ecosystem of the Narew river. By planting a mix of native species in the floodplains of the river, this project will help increase biodiversity in this essential ecosystem.

Impact
By supporting this project, you will help restore one of the most damaged ecosystems in Europe. These riparian zones are a hotspot for biodiversity, but also valuable areas for agriculture. This has led to a drastic reduction in native forests cover in this type of ecosystem across Europe. By planting a mix of native trees, this project will improve soil quality, boost water infiltration, store carbon for decades and increase landscape value.
