Marcoussis (Île-de-France) - Community Project

About the project

In Marcoussis (Île-de-France), this agroforestry project unfolds within a small-scale farm led by a young third-generation farmer, currently the only active female farmer in the area. Her ambition is to develop a fully organic farm built around three complementary productions: organic produce, perfume, and medicinal plants (PPAM) grown in partnership with a social inclusion structure supporting people with disabilities. The goal: reviving the "Fraises de Marcoussis" tradition that made the village famous half a century ago.

Objective

We estimate that the totality of the project could allow us to plant more than 3,000 trees and shrubs, including hedgerows, fruit trees, and aromatic plants, while actively engaging the local community through tree planting events and a workshop for local farmers on agroecological practices. This nature regeneration project will enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and support pollinators, all of which are essential for this innovative agro-ecological project.

Impact

The project creates tangible environmental and social impact by enhancing biodiversity, improving soil health and supporting pollinators through nature-based solutions. At the same time, it brings together residents, schools and local organisations, fostering community engagement and strengthening local connections. As a pilot initiative, it lays the foundation for a model that can grow over time, expanding its impact year after year.

How do we measure this impact?

  • Number of trees planted

  • Length of hedgerows established

  • Tons of CO2 eq absorbed

  • Biodiversity increase

  • Community members engaged

  • Community activities delivered

  • Training outreach

  • Jobs supported

Supporting this project means supporting the following Sustainable Development Goals:

  • zero hunger
  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
  • Partnerships for the goals
