Reforestation and Rain Garden in Rho
About the project
Life Terra, together with Soulfood Farms and the support of AWS, is transforming underutilized areas in Rho into vibrant, multifunctional green spaces. By planting 1,250 native and climate-resilient trees, creating inclusive pedestrian areas, and implementing a nature-based rain garden along Torrente Lura, this project combines ecological restoration with community well-being, enhancing biodiversity, air and water quality, and urban resilience.
The project turns overlooked urban land into welcoming, sustainable spaces where residents can connect with nature, learn about climate adaptation, and enjoy recreational opportunities. This project continues previous efforts from these partnerships, which successfully implemented a rain garden in the area in the previous year.

Objective
Regenerate urban ecosystems by planting trees and improving stormwater management while enhancing microclimatic conditions and mitigating pollution. It also seeks to create accessible, inclusive public spaces that foster social interaction, education, and community engagement.
Impact
The interventions will enhance biodiversity, strengthen riparian habitats, and improve air and water quality through natural filtration. Residents will benefit from more accessible green areas, educational opportunities, and spaces for recreation and social cohesion.
How do we measure this impact?
Number of trees planted
Number of hectares restored
Tons of CO2 eq absorbed**
Community members involved
Students involved
Jobs created

Carbon Dioxide Offsetting Estimate
This 1-hectare project is estimated to absorb 150-250 ton CO2eq/hectare.
In total, an estimate of 150-250 tons CO2 equivalent will be absorbed in a 40-year period.
