Santa Clara-a-Velha, Portugal
Santa Clara-a-Velha is located in Odemira, Portugal, where Life Terra has its largest carbon project in the country.
It involved the planting of more than 65,000 trees and shrubs to restore a damaged area of 55ha previously invaded by Eucalyptus.
When grown in monoculture, Eucalyptus can lead to soil degradation and increased vulnerability to pests and diseases, ultimately harming the ecosystem.
Therefore, we have planted 7 native species of trees and shrubs to boost biodiversity, attract pollinators and increase the presence of local fauna.

Plot and Tree information
Santa Clara-a-Velha, Odemira, is located in the region of Alentejo.
The climate in Alentejo is typically Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters. Rainfall is scarce, particularly in the summer months, with most precipitation occurring during the winter season.
The trees and shrubs planted will not only contribute to boosting biodiversity and local fauna and flora but also enhance soil conservation and improve water cycles, a crucial factor in dry regions like the Alentejo.
This planting will also help create shelter for one of the most endangered species in the world: the Iberian Lynx.
