Staelduinse Bos, Hook of Holland
About the project
The Staelduinse Bos is a 95-hectare forest in the Westland region between Hook of Holland and Maasdijk, and is part of the Kapittelduinen nature reserve. Due to the expansion of horticulture, housing, infrastructure, and businesses, the Staelduinse Bos is one of the few remaining green enclaves in the region. This ancient, mixed forest is managed naturally and forms an important breeding ground for songbirds and bats.
Objective
Like many other European forests, the Staelduinse Bos has been affected by ash dieback, resulting in many ash trees dying or being felled. Therefore, we are working with Zuid-Hollands Landschap (South Holland Landscape) to replant these affected areas with a mix of native species.

Impact
This project promotes biodiversity and reduces the chance that the death of a tree species will cause such a major problem for the forest again in the future. We began replanting trees in the affected area in early 2025. We will complete this project in the coming planting season to make this beautiful forest more diverse and healthy again.
How do we measure this impact?
Number of trees planted
Number of hectares restored
