Tres Cantos: Miyawaki Forest
About the project
This project will establish the first Miyawaki forest in Tres Cantos, in collaboration with the City Council, within the Central Park, near the Aula de Medio Ambiente “Las Vaquerizas”.
The initiative aims to restore biodiversity and raise environmental awareness by transforming a small urban area into a thriving native micro-forest.
The project will actively involve the local community, including schools and residents, through educational and volunteer planting events.
Objective
To create a 400 m² Miyawaki forest composed of approximately 2,000 native trees and shrubs, enhancing local biodiversity, improving soil health, and engaging the community in climate action.

Impact
Restore urban biodiversity and create new habitats for pollinators and wildlife.
Improve local air quality, soil structure, and water retention.
Strengthen environmental education and community participation.
Contribute to climate resilience through increased carbon sequestration.
Builds a replicable model for future urban restoration initiatives in Madrid.
How do we measure this impact?
Number of trees planted
Number of species planted
Number of hectares restored
Tons of CO2 eq absorbed
Community members involved
Students involved
Number of community planting events
