Vijfslagenland, The Hague
About the project
The Vijfslagenland is located on the banks of the River Vliet, on the edge of The Hague, and is of particular importance because it is one of the last remaining examples of the city's original peat meadow landscape. With its long, narrow plots and waterways, the site has significant ecological, cultural and historical value. However, as a result of long-term grazing and the urbanization that surrounds it, the site is currently low in species and biodiversity.
Objective
Life Terra is helping the local municipality to transform the Vijfslagenland into a beautiful, biodiverse area that offers long-term benefits for nature, water management and recreation.

Impact
Along the riverbanks, the traditional peat meadow landscape will be preserved by extensive grazing. In contrast, at the edges of this and in the lower-lying parts of the plot, Life Terra, in collaboration with the municipality of The Hague, will plant a mixed forest of native trees.
This will restore the site to its original, natural state, not only increasing biodiversity but also creating a natural barrier between the site and urban growth. This will transform the Vijfslagenland into a lovely, calming place to enjoy nature in the very heart of the city.
How do we measure this impact?
