Agrosilvopastoral Project at Cascina Bagaggera

About the project

Life Terra returns to Italy with a planting project at Cascina Bagaggera, a beautiful organic farm in Lombardy’s Montevecchia Park and Curone Valley. In partnership with Soulfood Farms, we’re helping this leader in sustainable, multifunctional agriculture grow its impact. Cascina Bagaggera already champions biodiversity, animal welfare, and regenerative practices while offering organic produce, educational workshops, and eco-tourism experiences.

Now, we’re adding more trees to strengthen the farm’s resilience, enhance local biodiversity, and deepen the bond between nature, food, and community.

Objective

The project will plant 2,000 trees in an agroforestry system to boost resilience to drought, diversify forage resources, enhance carbon sequestration, and strengthen biodiversity and ecological connectivity within Montevecchia Park.

Impact

The project will help prevent drought and heat stress by improving soil moisture, cooling the land, and creating a better microclimate for livestock. More shade means healthier, more productive animals, while new trees boost carbon storage, biodiversity, and long-term farm sustainability. It will also serve as a model for climate-resilient agriculture across Lombardy.

How do we measure this impact?

  • Number of trees planted

  • Number of hectares restored

  • Tons of CO2 eq absorbed**

  • Community members involved

  • Students involved

  • Jobs created

Supporting this project means supporting the following SDGs:

  • zero hunger
  • health
  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • responsible consumption and production
  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
  • Partnerships for the goals

Carbon Dioxide Offsetting Estimate

This 2-hectare project is estimated to absorb 300-500 ton CO2eq/hectare.

In total, an estimate of 600-900 tons CO2 equivalent will be absorbed in a 40-year period.
